I love this little painting! I'm loving painting on linen. I'm craving the feeling of brushing paint onto that surface like some people crave....mmm. Chocolate?

Birthday Flowers

 8 x 10"
oil on linen
email me to purchase

This bouquet was my birthday present from my husband. As you all know, I do love flowers! I ordered some Utrecht linen canvases, and this is my first attempt at painting on them. They have a VERY smooth surface, but it's not slippery - the paint sticks to it very well, especially if you tone the canvas with a wash of something first. I definitely like the linen - it's kind of a cross between the canvases I usually use and the Ampersand Gessobord that I used to use more often, but have stopped using as much recently.

All of these delicious purple things came from a friend's backyard garden - what I really want to call it is a farm, but, well, it's just his backyard. All summer he has been offering us the pick of his crops, and since we have entered the season when most gardeners are frankly sick of eating their own produce, I took him up on the offer this week. It was MUCH easier coming up with the composition for this painting than figuring out what to cook with this eggplant!

Black-Eyed-Susans and Peaches

8 x 10"
oil on canvas
available through Imagine Gallery
I tried to grow my own Black-Eyed-Susans (aka Rudbeckia) twice this year. The first time, the seeds didn't germinate. The second time, I bought plant starts, and the deer ate them before they even had a chance to settle in. Our neighborhood is like a catalog for the many possibilities of deer fencing, no wonder!

Sunflowers with Lipstick Plant

9 x 12"
oil on panel
Sold
I painted this one before the previously posted painting, but only just put the finishing touches on today. As you can see, it's fairly tight - mostly as a result of the smooth painting surface - and after I finished work on it, I was attempting to unwind with a looser version.
