I worked on this painting over the course of three days. One thing I tried to focus on was maintaining the slight color difference between the cloth and the background - not easy when you've got a palette covered in nothing but murky blue-grey shades of paint! This particular piece of fabric used to be a very polyester sham pillowcase, but since I rescued it from Goodwill, it will now have an entirely new, and far less tacky existence - minus its formerly frilly border.

I'm a rededicated fan of your work, Sarah, since you've been pulling back your focus on your subjects and inviting us to enjoy them in their relationships with surrounding elements. This one is a sophisticated drama with a true star- the stargazer. You blow me away.

I enjoy all your 'murkys' in the palette. I like to see the objects pushing out of the composition and would have done that again with the left edge of the adopted polyester; not that you asked....
Can you imagine what the lily greenhouse looks like? It must be awesome in there.
This is such a beautiful painting! Love the way the flower is reaching over the fabric and the iridescent quality of the cloth. Stunning!
