I'm reading Henshe on Painting and this was an attempt at capturing the light key. As I understand it so far, the basic idea is that you mix up a few main colors and apply them in general geometric blocks to represent the form, trying to really bring the feeling of the thing across through correctly capturing the light's color. Once I was happy with the color/value relationships, I fiddled around with the details. I left my spotlight off this one, and just relied on the light from the window. I'm definitely going to do more of this.
