White Flower in Blue Glass

4 x 4"
oil on panel
Sold

I hope you are all having a wonderful labor day weekend. We spent last night camping in central Oregon with two good friends, eating tons of fruit salad, drinking wine, and savoring the last of summer (while wearing wool socks - the nighttime low was 35 degrees)!

Wine Grapes

4 x 4"
oil on panel
Sold

There are two grape vines in the yard - one purple, one white. The white grapes really taste like wine - they are hardly sweet at all. The purple ones on the other hand...there are almost none left to paint, since I have to cram a handful in my mouth every time I walk by. Turns out that I prefer red wine right down to the grapes themselves! Not surprised.

Lemons on a Painted Dish

4 x 4"
oil on panel
Sold

My mother bought this dish in Jerusalem in the late seventies. She was pregnant with me at the time! What impresses me most about this story is the fact that the dish hasn't been broken in all that time. I think I'll be putting this one back where I found it pretty fast!

Three Plums in a Bowl

6 x 6"
oil on panel
$50
$5 s/h

The colors in plums are so beautiful, I don't feel like I've done them justice. I enjoyed painting this bowl again - and I apologize for the glare on the left side of the painting.

Summer Bouquet

6 x 6"
oil on panel
Sold

Black-eyed susans, small sunflowers, and a rose that I picked in the yard this morning. All in all, a delightful afternoon of painting.

Nocturne in Blue

8 x 8"
oil on panel (built-in hanging slot)
$50
$5 s/h

This one looks really cool in person. I put it up on a high shelf in my studio, where I can see it from across the room each time I enter. To me it expresses a calm, serene mood.

Flowers and Fruit

5 x 7"
oil on Ampersand Gessobord
Sold

I like the soft gray background in this one against the bright, saturated colors of the objects. Until about a month ago, I was mixing all my grays, but I came to see it as a waste of expensive paint colors, so I bought a tube of gray. I've been happy with it, so far.

Large Lemons

5 x 7"
oil on canvas on panel
Sold

These enormous lemons are from my sister-in-law's yard in Southern California. The apple and jalapenos are from our yard in Oregon. I think the juxtaposition is appropriate since we just got back from hanging out with them for several days. It was a fun time!

Black Eyed Susans

5 x 7"
oil on canvas on panel
Sold
I just received an email from fellow blogging-painter Liz Floyd, naming me as one of her choices for the Arte y Pico Award - an honor which circulates among creative bloggers, usually given to acknowledge that someone has been a particular inspiration to you. To say the least, I am very honored. Like most internet-selling artists, I read a lot of blogs. By a lot, I mean about 45 that I visit every single day, which by some standards will not seem like many. Part of receiving the Arte y Pico Award is designating five blogs to pass it on to. So, here is my list of five inspirational, enjoyable blogs you should all check out:

Self Portrait With Headphones

6 x 8"
oil on canvas on panel
Price on Request

Another small self-portrait. I like to keep doing these periodically, just to see how they evolve over time, and stylistically according to my mood on the day. When I paint myself with my glasses on, I like to leave the eyes very sketchy and suggested. I also left the glasses very sketchy in this piece. What I was most interested in was the backlighting - how the light was hitting my shoulders and outlining my face, but not actually creating any highlights on the features.

Green and Orange Glass

5 x 7"
oil on canvas on panel
Sold

I will be out of town on and off for the next week or so - going to Crater Lake and Crescent Lake to take in some natural beauty, do some serious hiking, and spend time with family. All pending shipments will go out on Monday the 18th, and I will be answering email on Sunday, so feel free to get in touch! Also, check back here over the weekend, I've got another post scheduled to go up in my absence. Don't you just love Blogger?

Asian Lily, Asian Vase

5 x 7"
oil on Ampersand Gessobord
Sold

Hard to believe, but there are only a few more lilies left to open in the yard. This being the first summer we are spending in this house, every day brings new discoveries, horticulturally. The former owner really did love to garden....

Blue and White Pitcher

4 x 4"
oil on Ampersand Gessobord
$30
$5 s/h

I love the creamy look of this off-white ceramic glaze.

Little Lamp

5 x 5"
oil on Ampersand Gessobord
$40
$5 s/h

This is a funny old lamp that has been around for as long as I can remember. It comes from the seventies, when everything was brown.

Vase and Apple

6 x 6"
oil on Ampersand Gessobord
Sold

Back to the square format. It feels like a relief to have all that space in every direction, although I notice now that I composed the setup as though I were going to paint another 5x7. I got some colored cloth at the thrift store this week to bring some variation to my still lives. This blue may be a bit intense...it keeps reminding me of Superman.

Trumpet Vine no. 2

5 x 7"
oil on Ampersand Gessobord
Sold

I tried to paint this crazy Trumpet Vine en plein air the other day, and it was a disaster. I never used to consider myself a cut flower person (as opposed to liking them as nature intended, outdoors, and attached to their stems and roots), but it turns out, I am. Self discovery....happening all the time. :-)

Kaleidoscope Orchid

5 x 5"
oil on Ampersand Gessobord
Sold

This orchid has been in bloom for a couple of months now, and I'm glad I finally worked up the courage to paint it, since the blossoms are now starting to drop. I highly recommend orchids to anyone who likes having plants in their home. With minimal care, they will rebloom every year, and the blossoms can last over three months.

Two Sunflowers with Blue Pitcher

5 x 7"
oil on canvas on panel
Sold

This is Daily Painting number 100! I'd like to thank all of you for your encouragement and your patronage. Stay tuned...there are many more to come.

Sunset over the Willamette River

No. 1
5 x 7"
oil on canvas on panel
$40
$5 s/h

No. 2
4 x 4"
oil on Ampersand Gessobord
$20
$5 s/h

Two views of the Willamette River looking west towards the Cascades. One of the first things we learned upon moving to Oregon was that it's not pronouned "Will-uh-MET," but "Will-LA-met." A good way to remember this is to repeat to yourself: "It's Willamette, Dammit!" with the last two words rhyming.

Fuschia Lilies

5 x 7"
oil on canvas on panel
Sold

For all you fellow blogging-artists out there...in case you haven't visited Jeff Hayes' blog recently, he's doing a painting giveaway this month, and he's also got a new blog dedicated to the nuts and bolts of art-making, called Watching Paint Dry. Good stuff! He also administers the Squidoo lens on daily painting, which is worth checking out.

Wooden Door with Vine

5 x 7"
oil on hardboard panel (built-in hanging slot)
$40
$5 s/h

This is the door to our laundry room/shed from the vantage point of the deck. You can see some of the neighbors' roofs in the distance. There is a crazy vine trying to take over the whole scene. About a month ago Jesse actually attacked it with a weed-whacker, but now it's back and better than ever.
