Lily Bouquet with Scissors

11 x 14"
oil on canvas
Sold
Halfway through painting this, I heard my cat freaking out in the hallway. I went to investigate and found him playing with a snake! Granted, it was no Boa Constrictor, but still - it was on the second floor of my house! Right now it's trapped underneath a garbage can waiting for Jesse to get home and deal with it. Snake disposal is NOT in my job description...

Pink Lily with Orange

6 x 8"
oil on canvas

I had a great time this morning meeting a fellow Eugene painter, Gabriella Soraci, who emailed me after discovering my work on Etsy. I really like Etsy, I have to say. I don't sell much there, but it's great in so many other ways!

Pink Lilies

11 x 14"
oil on canvas
$100
Available in my Etsy Store
Lilies are the most difficult flower to paint - at least that I've encountered so far. I think it's because the value differences are so slight - it's hard to show what the petals are doing without getting way too fussy with the detail. With red roses, for example, you get some really luscious darks - these lilies just don't have that. They're pretty, though!

Foxgloves

6 x 8"
oil on canvas
Sold
A big thanks to Lana, one of my excellent local collectors, for donating the vase and the flowers! It's always fun to have new objects to paint.

One more thing: Zazzle.com is offering free shipping through the end of June. I just ordered some of my note cards from them, and they are beautiful. Plus, they arrived about two days after I placed the order! I think I paid 10 or 12 bucks for shipping, so this offer is a real money-saver. Just use the code JUNESHIPFREE at checkout.

I toned this canvas with a wash of pthalo green before beginning...it had very strange effects. It sort of deadened every color I put down - even the greens didn't go on quite like I expected them to. I'm not unhappy with the painting, but I'm still not sure I'll try starting with pthalo green again.
