Tulips and Wildflowers

8 x 10"
oil on gessoboard

I picked these orange wildflowers near my apartment the other day. As they were sitting under the light, they kept opening up more and more, which was a little problematical for me, not to mention the fact that I find orange difficult to work with sometimes. I'm glad I persevered, even though it took all day. By the time I finished this one, it was too dark to take a good picture, so the post had to wait for morning.

beautiful flowers! your work is fabulous! i have a technical question to you: i noticed that you paint in oils on watercolor paper. when you frame your work, do you need to protect with glass like with watercolors? thanks! theresa miller

Like the hard and soft, but both are delicate. Nicely done.

Thanks, Theresa and Frank. Theresa, to answer your question, I prefer to frame the tiny paintings behind glass, but double matted, so the glass doesn't touch the painting. Larger oil paintings on paper, I often frame without glass, as I would a canvas panel, but with a sheet of cardboard or foam board behind the paper.

Really beautiful- the brushwork, the composition and the colors. The orange flowers really add an interesting touch- a bit unexpected.
