Sunflowers aren't really springlike, but when I saw them at the store yesterday, I just couldn't resist. These remind me of paintbrushes, with their thick, rigid stems and their small, short-petaled flowers. When I was painting this last night, I was hating the blue background - it looked SO bright and vivid under the full spectrum light bulb, but in daylight it looked just fine. When I paint after dark, I usually feel like I have to wait until the next morning to see if what I did was any good! I try to mix my colors during the day, so I can at least trust my palette.

Just beautiful! One of the many things I like about your work is the feeling of the air and space in and around your subjects.
I love your sunflower paintings, and this one is particularly lovely.
