I feel like I've been really fortunate lately - inspirational finds at the thrift store, lots of ideas for paintings to come...maybe it's just Friday evening, but things are looking up! Giving back by starting this little glow-worm at $1 on ebay.

Gentle Glow

This is painting #350, and it's got a Halloween vibe, don't you agree? I've got a gorgeous black frame for this one - not unlike the one pictured above (but even nicer)! See the Etsy listing for details.

Studio View

This is definitely the largest painting I've finished (and been happy with) in a while. Jesse commented that it was an awesome painting, but he couldn't really imagine anyone wanting to hang an image of the junk in my studio on a wall in their home. Oh well, I was drawn to this random scene, I really wanted to paint it, I enjoyed doing it, and every time I look at it I know I'll remember that happiness. So, I guess it already has its perfect owner.  Not that I wouldn't part with it if anyone was ever to prove my husband wrong!

My plan is to do a whole series of these 6 x 6" paintings of ornaments seen from above, while working on some larger pieces simultaneously. Also planning to score some hot-pink ornaments pretty soon, so stay tuned!

Gold and Green Ornaments

 6 x 6"
oil on panel
Sold
All this week, I've had a 'day' painting and a 'night' painting going at once - two separate pallettes and two different setups. Can you tell which this is? Hint: look at the shape of the highlights on the ornaments!

The Ingres Print

A friend recently visited the Frick Collection in NYC, and brought me back this print by Ingres. Wonder why intricate blue drapery reminded her of me....?

This is a daytime scene, but it's not natural light. Here in Oregon, we didn't get much of that today.

I didn't stay up too late painting this last night, because I couldn't wait to get into bed and finish reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. (Hint: you can get it for free at this link with the coupon code GOODREAD - it takes $1 off any order!)

I love this little painting! I'm loving painting on linen. I'm craving the feeling of brushing paint onto that surface like some people crave....mmm. Chocolate?

Birthday Flowers

 8 x 10"
oil on linen
email me to purchase

This bouquet was my birthday present from my husband. As you all know, I do love flowers! I ordered some Utrecht linen canvases, and this is my first attempt at painting on them. They have a VERY smooth surface, but it's not slippery - the paint sticks to it very well, especially if you tone the canvas with a wash of something first. I definitely like the linen - it's kind of a cross between the canvases I usually use and the Ampersand Gessobord that I used to use more often, but have stopped using as much recently.

All of these delicious purple things came from a friend's backyard garden - what I really want to call it is a farm, but, well, it's just his backyard. All summer he has been offering us the pick of his crops, and since we have entered the season when most gardeners are frankly sick of eating their own produce, I took him up on the offer this week. It was MUCH easier coming up with the composition for this painting than figuring out what to cook with this eggplant!

This was the last 8 x 10" canvas in my studio. Good thing I have a box on the way from Utrecht!
